Tips For Improved Sleep
We have all experienced those restless nights followed by terrible days where all you want to do is go back to bed and sleep. I personally think that being really tired is almost as uncomfortable and exhausting as being sick in fever or a cold, I really hate it and definitely can’t function properly. Both my mental health, such as concentration and mood, as well as physical health and immune system really suffer after a sleepless night. As a holistic health coach, I certainly believe in the importance of good sleep in addition to physical exercise, nutritious food, healthy relationships, etc. I try to prioritize it and do my best to sleep at least 8 hours every night, which is what I feel is my minimum. Some tips for improved sleep, both when it comes to actually falling asleep easier and the quality of sleep throughout the night, are:
-Put your phone away (and on silent) at least 30 minutes before you plan to go to bed. Try to stay away from screens as long as you can before going to sleep since that light make us feel less tired.
-Don’t watch a series or discuss/think about anything that gets you emotional in any way right before going to bed. You don’t want to have a million thoughts in your head when you’re trying to fall asleep. If this is a common problem for you and makes you stay awake, keep a little note book by your bed that you can jot down your thoughts in whenever you feel like they are causing you any troubles to sleep.
-If you want to do something right before bed, try to read, write, meditate, or do some light yoga.
-Make sure your room is a little cold, completely dark, and free from any noises.
-Invest in comfortable and cozy bed linens.
-Avoid drinking coffee after 10 AM and avoid alcohol.
-Don’t eat for at least two hours before going to bed, and try to avoid eating a heavy dinner and lots of sugar.
-Try to go to bed and get up around the same time every day – this will help your body to get tired when it’s time to go to bed.
Good luck with your sleep, and comment below if you have any other tricks that work for you!
